Choosing citrus fruit and mixed boxes for everyday meals

A useful fruit order starts with the meals it needs to cover. Oranges for breakfast, mandarins to take out with you and avocados for lunch do different jobs. Deciding on those uses first makes it easier to choose between a single-fruit box and a combination.

Naranjas Amparo brings together farmers and harvesting families through an ongoing family tradition. Our fruit is grown without chemical treatments and supplied without treatments. If certified organic production is a requirement for your purchase, ask for the relevant certification rather than treating this description as an organic label.

Use the selection below to explore the available formats. Check each product page for its stated weight and contents, then review the delivery conditions for your address. This English-language page does not, by itself, confirm delivery outside Spain.

Fruit boxes from farmers: choose by weight and use

If you are browsing Spanish product names, a few terms help explain the selection. The orange range includes options described by their intended use, while mixed fruit boxes combine products in stated proportions.

  • De mesa: intended for eating as whole fruit or in segments.
  • De zumo: intended for squeezing. It does not promise a fixed volume of juice per kilogram.
  • Calibre: fruit size, not a sweetness rating.
  • Caja mixta: a mixed box. Check the amount of each ingredient rather than assuming an equal split.
  • Sin seleccionar: read the specific description to understand what has not been sorted; do not infer the contents from the name alone.

Product names are a starting point. Variety, net weight and the current description provide the detail needed to decide whether a box suits your kitchen.

Make room before the box arrives

Storage space is part of choosing a quantity. A large box may fit beside the kitchen counter but leave little room to inspect the lower layers. Before ordering, decide where the fruit will go once unpacked.

Keep a modest amount of citrus accessible for near-term use. Store the rest in a cool, ventilated place or refrigerate it when the room is warm. Avoid sealed bags that trap moisture, and keep fruit away from oven vents and sunny windows.

Avocados need a separate decision. Firm fruit can ripen at room temperature, while ripe fruit can be refrigerated to slow further softening. Skin colour alone is not a reliable test for every variety.

There is no single storage period that applies to every delivery. Variety, condition on arrival and household temperature all matter. A quick check every day or two is more useful than relying on a fixed number of days.

Keep a note of what worked

After a first order, write down the variety, box weight and how you used the fruit. A short note such as ‘mostly eaten in segments, some left after the weekend’ gives you a practical starting point for the next purchase.

Separate personal preference from a quality concern. You may prefer a firmer segment or a sharper flavour without anything being wrong with the fruit. Soft, leaking or mouldy pieces are a different issue and should be reported with clear photographs and the order reference.

Seasonal changes can mean that a previous variety is no longer available. Rather than expecting every order to taste identical, use your notes to ask which current option is closest to the texture and use you preferred.

Practical questions for your first order

Does this page confirm delivery throughout Spain or abroad?

No. Check service availability for the full destination address before placing an order. Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla should not be assumed to share the same delivery conditions.

If you want fruit sent to another country, ask specifically about that destination. The language used on the website is not evidence of an international shipping service.

Review the final delivery charge and estimated timing before payment. Local holidays, access restrictions and transport disruption can affect a route even when the weather at your address is clear.

What address details matter in a Spanish apartment building?

Include the street number, building or block where relevant, staircase, floor and door identifier, together with the correct postcode and municipality. A development name alone may cover several separate entrances.

Use the recipient’s name as it appears on the intercom where possible. Provide a reachable contact number and make sure any reception or concierge arrangement has been agreed in advance.

For a holiday rental, confirm that deliveries are accepted and that the parcel is expected within your stay. Do not assume a property manager will collect or store food after you leave.

How should I compare the cost of two different boxes?

Compare equivalent contents first, then look at the complete amount payable. A mixed box and an orange-only box are not interchangeable simply because they weigh the same.

What to check before comparing totals
DetailWhy it matters
Net fruit weightPackaging should not be counted as edible contents.
Product splitA combination may contain more of one fruit than you need.
Delivery and applicable chargesThe listed product price may not be the final order total.
Amount you will useA lower cost per kilogram is less useful if fruit is left uneaten.

For a simple reference, divide the final payable total by the stated net kilograms. Treat the result as a delivered cost comparison, not a judgement of flavour or suitability.

Can I leave the delivery on a terrace or outside the front door?

A sheltered-looking spot is not necessarily suitable for food. Direct sun can heat a box quickly, rain can wet the packaging, and an unattended entrance leaves the contents unmonitored.

During hot periods in southern and inland Spain, avoid leaving a delivery in a parked car while you finish other errands. In exposed coastal locations, shelter from rain and humidity also matters. In colder areas, protect fruit from frost.

Arrange a handover that the delivery service actually supports. A note requesting a particular time or location does not guarantee that it can be followed.

Can I freeze fruit if my plans change?

Freezing can be useful, but it changes texture. Peeled orange or mandarin segments are generally better used afterwards in blended preparations or cooking than served as if they were fresh.

Wash the fruit before peeling, remove seeds and divide it into portions you will use at one time. Freeze in suitable sealed containers and label them with the contents and date.

Only freeze sound fruit. Freezing does not make mouldy or spoiled pieces safe. If you freeze juice, leave expansion space in the container rather than filling it to the rim.

What is a simple savoury way to use oranges and avocado?

For two side portions, combine one orange, one ripe avocado and about 100 g of sliced fennel. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and season to taste.

  1. Wash the produce before cutting, including the orange and avocado skins.
  2. Peel the orange and cut the flesh into bite-sized pieces, keeping any released juice for the dressing.
  3. Slice the fennel thinly and cut the avocado just before serving.
  4. Fold the ingredients together gently so the avocado keeps its shape.

Prepare only what you expect to eat, or refrigerate the remainder promptly in a covered container. Citrus juice may slow surface browning, but it does not replace refrigeration.
